The Top 10 of 2010… 10 to 5
It’s about time I posted this… and with less than 12 hours to go in the year! The past 12 months were filled with some amazing music. So, here’s my favourites of the year 2010.. aaaannnd…. GO!
10) Gorillaz- plastic beach
This album came out so early in 2010 I almost forgot it was part of this year but it definitely deserves a mention. Banishing our beloved band to an Island could be the best thing that’s happened to 2D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel… Although if the music video for Stylo was any indication it was certainly not an easy ride. Tons of amazing guest voices like Lou Reed, Mos Def, and Little Dragon on that tracks. Totally sick beats make this album one of my favourites from the year.
Favourite Tracks- Rhinestone Eyes, Stylo, Glitter Freeze, Some Kind of Nature.
9: Black Keys- Brothers
Oh, how I love this duo and oh how I love this album. It’s true I listened to it so much that I needed to take a 6 month hiatus from it but that really speaks in its favour. Dan Auerbach charmed me long ago and continues to keep me under his spell. This is an album that should be in everyone’s home.
Favourite tracks- Next Girl, Howlin’ for You, and Sinister Kid
8: Janelle Monae- The ArchAndroid
This album is #1 for creativity. I would love to take a field trip into Janelle Monae’s brain just to see how it works. She grasps inspiration from everywhere! This album has elements of rock, electronica, Motown, funk…. and that’s barely grazing the surface. This chick’s voice is amazingly powerful and she knows how to use it.
Favourite tracks – Cold War, Come Alive, Oh Maker, and Dance of Die.
7) Big Boi- Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty
OMG I love Big Boi. I’d probably do anything he asked of me ( including waving my hands in the air like I just don’t care). This album came out swinging. With amazing guest voices like Janelle Monae and Yelawolf this album will pump you up and then knock you out.
Favourite tracks- Shutterbugg, Be Still, Tangerine
6: Local Natives- Gorilla Manor
Its just so sweet and lovely. Creative percussion with beautiful vocals. Every time I listen to this album I just want to hug people/animals/anything around me. A great ebb and flow of energy and interesting lyrics to boot.
Favourite songs- Airplanes, Cubism Dream, Warning Sign
5: Dead Weather- Sea of Cowards
I am the huge Jack White fan. I’m also a huge Allison Mosshart fan. Put ‘em together and what do you get? My wet dream. Sea of Cowards is a great addition to the Dead Weather’s discography. Its muddy bluesy rock that makes me swoon.
Favourite songs- Gasoline, Die by the Drop, Blue Blood Blues
