The Acorn, an Interview

February 10, 2015 | Filed under: Interviews, Music and tagged with: cancon, Interview, music, music festival, Ottawa, Reunion, The Acorn, Toronto, Wavelength

I was very lucky a couple weeks ago. I got to interview a band i’ve loved for quite a while- The Acorn. Around the time I was attending Carleton University, the Ottawa natives were releasing their first couple of albums. Filled with beautiful melodies and stories told through every layer of a song, these were albums that would end up on frequent itunes rotation.

The full interview with Rolf Klausener can be found here . In the mean time, here is an excerpt from our conversation regarding the emotions and decisions that lead up to The Acorn’s hiatus in 2011:

“The Acorn went from a hobby to our livelihood. The band was paying the rent for my friends and me, and we had a lot of people working with us, so there was a lot of pressure for sure. I never thought I would be someone who would succumb to that kind of pressure but when you’re sitting there writing and you’re thinking “okay, well how will this song pay Pat’s hydro bill?”… The second you even consider an emotion like that, it means you need to stop.”

It’s a hard decision to make, to put your now very successful project on hold for the sake of artistic integrity. I’m so glad that his subsequent jouney brought life back into this project.

The full interview is filled with beautiful gems about the upcoming two(!) albums this year. Take a read and come see them play! Saturday Feb 14th at the Polish Combatants Hall as part of WL15
