Free The Coppertone; Claim Yourself.

I’ve been missing her presence on the stage. A lot. If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen The Coppertone perform much as of late, it likely has something to do with a gutsy move she made to leave her record label (and unfair contract) behind .  You gotta risk to get reward, right?  Almost. Turns our there is one more hurdle to her musical emancipation.
This fiery redhead now needs to shed the remaining ties to her label which, unfortunately, comes as a $20,000 debt. Until she pays this off, she does not own the rights to her own songs which means right now they aren’t hers to play or share (it is my understanding technically she isn’t able to release any new music using her moniker either).  Its easy to forget that while signing with a label can offer an opportunity for heightened success ( though with recent advancements its becoming a more level playing field for independent artists); these artists sign over everything about their musical selves. If you want out of an unfair contract, well, its an uphill climb to say the least.

Feeding off of the great successes of other arts projects, she’s turned to her fans for help. The Coppertone has launched an Indiegogo campaign entitled Claim Yourself.  She states  “…this campaign is for all of us, we all need reminders that someone else is out there doing it. By reaching this goad we are doing more than just liberating me to move forward and pursue my dreams. We are inspiring and enabling others. Giving an example that we can all stand up and follow our own dreams”. She has written a new song to celebrate called Young Blood (below).

There is 27 days left on the campaign.  She has a whole album written and ready. All she needs now is her right to be who she is. Amanda Zelina IS The Coppertone. Always has been. Time to claim it back.
